2022 Commonwealth Games: Lawal Wins Nigeria’s Second Gold Medal

Nigeria’s sensational weightlifter Rafiatu Lawal has won Nigeria’s second gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games following her top finish in women’s weightlifting, Sportivation.com.ng reports.
Lawal won gold in the 59kg category while also breaking three games’ records to lift a combined total of 206kg in Birmingham.
During the snatch, Lawal made a lift of 90kg (a games’ record) before repeating the remarkable feat with 116kg in the clean and jerk, which ensured she secured another unbelievable record.
Lawal becomes the second Nigerian to win a medal on Sunday following Edidiong Umoafia’s bronze medal achievement in men’s weightlifting.
Also, she became the second Nigerian to win gold at the games following Adijat Olarinoye’s victory in her weightlifting category a day before.
Interestingly, the Nigerian men’s table tennis team progressed into the semi-final on Sunday.
The team brushed aside Malaysia 3-2 to advance to the semis, where they will slug it out with India.
