Olawale Onanuga has expressed his delight after a brilliant first season in Europe playing for Kastrioti in the Albanian league, Sportivation.com.ng reports.
The combative defensive midfielder teamed up with Tirana in September and he became a fans’ favourite following his impressive performances for the club.
“I am excited to be able to complete my first season in Europe with Tirana, it was a dream come true playing outside my country and also contributing to the success of the team”.
Olawale also showered encomiums on the fans of the club for their support since he stepped onto the pitch in his first match against Dinamo FK.
“The fans have been incredible showing me that kind of support means a lot to me as a young player leaving behind my family to adapt to a different environment was a bit challenging but the fans made me feel at home and I appreciate them for that.
He also reserved praises for the coaching crew, teammates, and everyone connected to the club.
The coaching crew gave me the necessary support to succeed from day one and encouraged me to give my best at all times, my teammates too were like a family we all look after each other. I appreciate them all.
Olawale Onanuga promised the fans that the best is yet to come as he aims to improve on his performance in the just-concluded season.
“I will always give my best for the club, I believe next season will be better as an individual and as a team, I want to assure the fans that they will see an improved Olawale when the league resumes next season.”
Olawale Onanuga made 30 appearances for Kastrioti in the Albanian league scoring one goal and churning out a series of eye-catching performances.
He described his match-winning goal against Tirana as his highlight of the season.
Olawale Onanuga was named in the team of the week after his goal gave Kastrioti a 1-0 win over champions Tirana away from home.
Kastrioti finished seventh in the Albanian league with 43 points.
