Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has stated that the Champions League final against Real Madrid is not about revenge for the La Liga giant’s victory in 2018.

Both teams will battle for the most prestigious title in European club football in Paris on Saturday in a repeat of the final played in Kyiv four years ago.

Los Blancos beat the English side 3-1 in 2018 final.

Karim Benzema put the Spanish team ahead in the 51st minute but Sadio Mané equalised four minutes later.

However, Gareth Bale scored two fantastic goals to seal the huge victory for the Madridistas.

During the game, Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah went off injured after a challenge from Sergio Ramos.

Ahead of this year’s final, Salah has stated both teams have “a score to settle.”

“This was a harsh night for us – it was tough to take,” said Klopp.

However, the German said he does not “believe in revenge or think revenge is a fantastic idea.”

He further stated: “I understand what Mo said – he wants to put it right. But in Germany, we say you always meet twice in life.

“If we get the chance to win it this time it will be a great story, but it will not be because of what happened in 2018.”

While addressing the Press, Klopp also gave a quick update on midfielder Thiago Alcantara’s availability for the game. He said the Spaniard has a “good chance” of recovering to play in Paris.

“He will train this afternoon,” Klopp said.

“At the moment it looks like he can be part of training tomorrow. That would be really helpful.

“It’s surprisingly good. After the game I was not really positive about it, but we got news that night that it doesn’t look that bad. We will see.”
