English club Chelsea have reached an initial agreement to sign Inter Milan midfielder Ivan Perisic on a free transfer.

The Croatian is set to leave Inter as a free agent at the end of the current campaign and has not reached an agreement to renew his contract with the Italian outfit.

Reports in Italy indicate that Perisic has been asking for a new three-year contract worth close to £100,000 a week but Inter have refused to change their offer of £65,000 a week on a two-year contract.

It is widely believed the 33-year-old is angered by the Italian reigning champions’ handling of his contract situation and would now seek to find greener pastures.

He has also been critical of the club following his brace in the victory over Juventus in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday evening.

‘I don’t know anything yet,’ Perisic told Sports Mediaset.

‘With important players, you don’t wait to the last minute. You ought to know that too.’

According to Sports Mediaset, Perisic has now reached an initial agreement with the West London side and is set to depart Inter as a free agent at the end of the season.

It is believed the contract is still subject to a medical and the final formalities of the agreement are yet to be signed off.

Sports Journalist, Simon Philips also confirmed the development on twitter.
