Dutch giants Ajax have emerged winners of 2021/2022 Eredivisie after an emphatic 5-0 home victory over SC Heerenveen on Wednesday.

The home side scored three first half goals with Nicolas Tagliafico opening the scoring in the 19th minute before Steven Berghuis grabbed the second three minutes past the half hour mark.

Prolific striker Sebastien Haller then put the game beyond the visitors five minutes later to make it 3-0.

The other two goals were scored late in the encounter through Brian Brobbey and Edson Alvarez, who both netted in the 85th and 90th minutes respectively.

The win at the Johan Cruyff Arena sends them four points clear of closest challengers PSV Eindhoven prior to Sunday’s final round of games.

Manager Erik ten Hag has guided the league winners to 26 wins in 33 league outings so far this campaign.

Ajax have also claimed the title with one game to spare before Ten Hag officially takes over as the new manager of Manchester United this summer.

The 52-year-old manager will replace interim United boss Ralf Rangnick on a three-year deal, which can be extended by a year.

The Dutchman will become United’s fifth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

He started managing Ajax in December 2017 and guided them to the league and cup double in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
