Gallagher Named Crystal Palace Player of The Season

Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher has been named Crystal Palace Player of the 2021/22 season by the supporters of the club.

The 22-year-old has been instrumental for the Eagles in the current campaign, having featured 36 times and scored eight goals in all competitions.

During the course of the ongoing campaign, he has won the club’s Player of the Month award twice, Goal of the Month once and also taken home Young Player of the Year at the 2022 London Football Awards.

The young player also earned his first senior England invitation in November 2021, making his bow in a 10-0 demolition of San Marino and adding a further two appearances in 2022.

Gallagher scored important goals against Manchester City, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Wolverhampton Wanderers, in addition to clinical finishes against Everton and Watford.

He also registered a brace to make sure Palace earned a point when against West Ham United.

During the awards on Tuesday, a third of Palace’s supporters voted him as Player of the Season, becoming the 38th Palace player to win the award since 1972.

Marc Guéhi was voted second after accruing 24% of the vote, while Tyrick Mitchell had 16.4% of the votes to place third.

Earlier in the club’s End of Season Awards, Mitchell was named Young Player of the Season.

Reacting to his latest achievement, Gallagher told the crowd: “Its massive. Honestly, from the bottom of my heart I can’t thank the fans enough. You’ve been brilliant from the first day and I’ve loved every minute of playing for Crystal Palace.

“I want to thank the players and the staff as well, because they’ve been unreal. I really appreciate it, so thank you so much.

“There have been a few highlights, it’s hard to pick one. But Manchester City, that win there and scoring was an amazing feeling.”

Other awardees on the night were Tayo Adaramola for Under-18 Player of the Season, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi for Under-23s Player of the Season, Aimee Everett for Women’s Player of the Season, and Wilfried Zaha v Norwich (A) for Goal of the Season.
