2022 World Cup qualifier: FIFA Set Date For Brazil vs Argentina Replay

FIFA stated on Monday that the cancelled 2022 World Cup qualifier between Brazil and Argentina will be rescheduled next month.

“The FIFA Appeal Committee has taken decisions on the appeals lodged by the Brazilian Football Association (CBF) and the Argentinian Football Association (AFA),” a statement said.

“After analysing the submissions of both parties and considering all circumstances of the case, the Appeal Committee confirmed that the match would be replayed.

”It also upheld the fine of 50,000 Swiss francs (50,200 dollars) that was imposed on both associations as a result of the abandonment.”

The game in Sao Paolo on September 5, 2021, was called off after only a few minutes.

Brazilian health officials maintained that certain Argentina players had entered the nation in violation of coronavirus laws at the time.

FIFA did cut Brazil’s 250,000 Swiss franc penalties for “infractions linked to order and security.”

It also reduced a 100,000 franc punishment imposed on the AFA for “failure to comply with its responsibilities in connection to the match’s preparation and participation.”

Brazil won the South American qualifying tournament for the World Cup in Qatar later this year, with Argentina finishing second.

That sequence will not alter regardless of the outcome of the rematch on June 11.
