Brighton & Hove Albion recorded a stunning 4-0 win over Manchester United at the Amex Stadium on Saturday evening.

Ralf Rangnick’s men were subjected to an embarrassing defeat at the hands of merciless Brighton. The 4-0 thrashing also confirms that the Red Devils will miss out on Champions League football next season.

Ecuador international Moises Caicedo broke the deadlock with his first ever Premier League goal in only his sixth appearance for the home side, with a low 25-yard shot that beat David de Gea in post.

With his goal, Caicedo became the 100th player to score his first ever Premier League goal against Manchester United.

In the second half, Brighton ran riots as defender, Marc Cucurella scored the second after drove his shot into the roof of the net from Belgian Leandro Trossard’s pass. It was also Cucurella’s first league goal.

Trossard also assisted Pascal Gross to calmly finish and extend Brighton’s lead to 3-0.

Brighton’s fourth goal was then netted by Trossard after he bundled the ball over the line from close range, with the goal ultimately awarded following VAR review for a handball.

The defeat means Manchester United have now lost five consecutive away matches.

This makes it the fifth time in three decades that they will not feature in Europe’s top tier competition – and there is still the possibility of United missing out on the Europa League and dropping into the Europa Conference League place.

The Red Devils presently occupy the sixth position on the league table, with six points ahead of West Ham United in seventh, who have two outstanding games.

Interestingly, this was the Seagulls’ first home victory of 2022 after previously picking up just four points from their last eight games at the Amex.

Hopes are now kept alive by Brighton and their supporters as the club could finish in the top 10 of English football topflight for the first time in their 121-year history.

Manchester United have won a record 20 English league titles, but have been extremely poor this season for a club of their calibre and status. Incoming boss, Erik Ten Hag has a lot on his hands in the rebuilding process and he will hope to hit the ground running and restore United’s dominant years.
