Fan Receives Death Threats Over Crowdfunding Dessers Purchase

Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers’ loan move to Feyenoord will end soon and reports have indicated that the turbulent financial situation of the Dutch side could make it an uphill task for them to sign him permanently for €4 million.

However, Dessers’ parent club Genk have given the club an ultimatum to activate his release clause. This development has led to some Feyenoord fans coming to the rescue of the ‘Pride of the South.’

The rescue mission, a crowdfunding initiative, was led by a local fan Peter van Seventer and an approximate €50,000 was raised before FIFA intervened and stated that crowdfunding activities for player transfers were illegal.

Following FIFA’s announcement, Van Seventer then chose to donate the money raised from the crowdfunding to a charity. His action has led to series of death threats on him and his family.

Speaking to a local Dutch news outlet, Van Seventer said: “Since Monday morning, I suddenly get death threats and threatening phone calls.

“You know, I’m just a simple guy from The Hague who wanted to do something fun. I don’t get it.

“What I’ve heard the last few days is pure nonsense. If you are going to threaten the creator of such an initiative, then you are simply not worthy of the Feyenoord club. Then please go and support another team.”
