Nigeria’s U-17 female football national team, the Flamingos will trade tackles with Ethiopia in the final qualifying round for this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The Flamingos beat their Egyptian counterparts 2-0 in Cairo in the third round second leg clash on Saturday night.

Prolific striker Opeyemi Ajakaiye opened the scoring for coach Bankole Olowookere’s girls in the 5th minute before Aminat Bello doubled the advantage nine minutes later.

The match played at the Petrosports Stadium, concluded with no further goals as the West African side qualified for the final round 6-0 on aggregate.

Nigeria will now face Ethiopia who walloped South Africa 3-0 away in Johannesburg in the first leg of their third-round clash but lost 0-1 to the South Africans in Addis Ababa on Saturday.

The Flamingos have participated in all but one of every edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and the Nigerian girls remain unbeaten in this qualifying series while also yet to concede a goal.

Olowookere’s charges spanked the Democratic Republic of Congo 3-0 in Kinshasa and 5-0 in Benin City, to make it an 8-0 the aggregate result, before eliminating the Egyptian ladies 6-0.

During this qualifying series, Ajakaiye remains the top scorer with five goals. The lethal forward has scored in each of Nigeria’s four matches.

The first leg of the Nigeria vs Ethiopia final round clash will hold on 21st May, while the return fixture will take place two weeks later in the East African nation.
