Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has been named the new head coach of the Austrian national team, Sportivation.com.ng reports.

Rangnick was appointed United’s interim manager, taking over from Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the end of 2021, and was tasked with supervising the first-team until the end of the current season.

However, the German’s latest appointment will not affect his consultancy role at United, a position he’ll occupy until 2024.

Rangnick confirmed he will still retain that position alongside his new management post in a statement on Friday.

“I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping United become a real force again.”

His more immediate attention will now be with Austria and their bid to qualify for the 2024 European Championship, after failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup finals later this year.

The 63-year-old has signed a two-year initial contract with Austria, with the agreement allowing him to continue his external role with United.

The Red Devils already appointed Dutch managet Erik ten Hag as their new boss on a three-year deal earlier in April, with the 52-year-old manager taking over at the end of the ongoing campaign.

President of the Austrian Football Association [OFB], Gerhard Milletich said: “We are very pleased that in Ralf Rangnick we have been able to recruit an outstanding expert in international football as team manager. We are all convinced that he is the ideal man and that his vision will advance the national team and the OFB.”
