Aguero, Drogba Inducted Into Premier League Hall of Fame

Didier Drogba, Vincent Kompany, Sergio Agüero, Paul Scholes, Peter Schmeichel, and Ian Wright have all been inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame, Sportivation.com.ng reports.

With the inclusion of the six legends, a total of 16 players have now been added to the Hall of Fame, which recognises great and amazing players who have graced the league since it began in 1992.

Former France and Arsenal striker Thierry Henry and ex-Newcastle forward Alan Shearer were the first set of players to be inducted 12 months ago.

Patrick Vieira and Wayne Rooney were included to the Hall of Fame earlier this year in March.

Other players to have been included in the elite club are
Eric Cantona, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Dennis Bergkamp, David Beckham and Roy Keane.

The selection of the latest former players was done through a public vote and from the Premier League Awards Panel.

Former Manchester City striker Agüero is the Premier League’s highest-scoring overseas player. The Argentinian scored 184 goals in his 275 appearances between 2011-2021.

History will never forget the 33-year-old’s dramatic stoppage-time winner (which was assisted by Mario Balotelli) against Queens Park Rangers on the final day of the 2011-12 season. The goal helped the Citizens claim their first top-flight trophy in 44 years.

Vincent Kompany played alongside Agüero and captained City to the historic league title in 2012.

Ivorian legend Drogba scored 104 top-flight goals in 254 appearances in his two spells at Chelsea, winning league title on four occasions.

The 44-year-old is regarded as one of the most important players in the history of Chelsea Football Club.

He scored an 88th minute equaliser against Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final and, during the penalty shoot-out, buried the decisive penalty that handed Chelsea their first ever Champions League trophy.

Schmeichel (father of Leicester City goalkeeper) is the first goalkeeper to be included in the Hall of Fame. The former Manchester United goalkeeper was instrumental to the Red Devils’ treble-winning team in 1999.

The 58-year-old also helped Denmark win the 1992 European Championship.

The Dane won five league titles at United and went on to play for Aston Villa and Manchester City. During his illustrious career, he kept 128 clean sheets in Premier League games.

47-year-old former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes won an incredible 11 top-flight titles and two Champions League trophies between 1993-and 2013.

Another inductee, Ian Wright was part of Arsenal’s double-winning side of 1998 and won two Premier League titles.

The 58-year-old found the back of the net 113 times in 213 appearances in the Premier League, which included a brief spell at West Ham United.
