Burnley have sacked manager Sean Dyche following an unimpressive 2021/2022 league campaign where they currently sit 18th, four points away from safety, Sportivation.com.ng reports.

Dyche leaves the Turf Moor outfit after 10 years with the side he helped gain promotion twice into the Premier League, the second time being the 2015/16 league campaign.

His assistant manager Ian Woan, first-team coach Steve Stone and goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer have also left the club.

Burnley have won only one of their last seven Premier League matches, and most recently lost 2-0 to Norwich on Sunday.

U23s coach Mike Jackson, has been placed temporarily in charge of the team and will be in the dugout for Sunday’s game against Europa League semifinalists West Ham United.

Jackson will be assisted by academy director Paul Jenkins, U23s goalkeeping coach Connor King and club captain Ben Mee.

50-year-old Dyche was temporarily part of the England U21 backroom staff in September 2012, before taking over at Burnley following the departure of Eddie Howe in October of the same year.

Dyche remarkably led Burnley to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League in the 2017/2018 league season. The feat saw Burnley secure Europa League football for the first time in 51 years. The achievement also meant it was the club’s best top-flight finish since a sixth-place finish in 1974.

In a statement, Burnley chairman Alan Pace said: “Firstly, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sean and his staff for their achievements at the Club over the last decade.

“During his time at Turf Moor, Sean has been a credit both on and off the pitch, respected by players, staff, supporters, and the wider football community.

“However, results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status.

“The process of replacing Sean has begun and further announcements will be made to supporters in due course.”
