Lille to keep Sven Botman despite Newcastle huge interest

Newcastle have been dealt a huge blow as plans to sign Sven Botman hit a brick wall with Lille determined to keep him.

The player has been courted since the transfer window opened as the magpies plan to sign both a Centre back and an attacker before their crucial game against Watford this weekend.

The 21-year-old has been Newcastle’s first-choice centre-back target and is believed to have been keen on the move, but Lille are adamant and have so far declined to hold talks with any suitors.

Lille plan to hold on to the defender as they are still competing in the champion league. With the setback, the magpies will now need to push for Sevilla’s Diego Carlos.

The push to sign a quality center-back comes after their embarrassing FA Cup exit at home to third-tier Cambridge United.
