WCQ: Osimhen On Target As Nigeria Beat Central African Republic

Nigeria earned a 2-0 win over the Central African Republic on Sunday in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash in Douala, Sportivation.com.ng reports.

Ahmed Musa was handed a start as he earned his 100th cap for Nigeria after making his debut at the age of 17 against Madagascar in 2010.

Leon Balogun scored the first goal with a superb finish just before the half-hour mark, Osimhen added the second goal on the stroke of halftime to give the Super Eagles a commanding lead at the end of the first half.

Gernot Rohr decided to ring changes after the lacklustre 1-0 loss to the Central African Republic in Lagos on Thursday.

Maduka Okoye regained his place and Chidozie Awaziem joined the ‘Oyinbo wall of Leon Balogun and William Troost-Ekong in a 3-5-2 formation, Moses Simon and Jamilu Collins played as wingbacks.

Kelechi Iheanacho, Joe Aribo and Frank Onyeka took their place in the midfield, Ahmed Musa and Victor Osimhen were tasked with providing the firepower.

It was sweet revenge for the Super Eagles after losing the first leg 1-0 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos on Thursday.

Frank Onyeka was booked for a rash challenge on Ngoma just after the restart.

Osimhen’s goal-bound effort was blocked before Chidera Ejuke replaced Ahmed Musa and Kenneth Omeruo took the place of Leon Balogun.

Innocent Bonke also came on to replace Kelechi Iheanacho as Nigeria sealed a 2-0 win over the Central African Republic to take charge of Group C.

The Super Eagles are on top of Group C with nine points from four games their next match is against Liberia in November.
