Chelsea Fans Expected Me To Be The New Ronaldo – Havertz

Kai Havertz has opened up on his first season at Chelsea after joining the West London club in the summer of 2020, Sportivation.com.ng reports.

He joined Chelsea in a big-money move from Bayer Leverkusen and due to the mammoth price tag he was expected to start firing on all cylinders for his new club, but he had a mixed first half of the season and also battled with Covid-19.

Havertz’s performances Improved towards the end of the season and he capped off a mixed first season with the winning goal in the Uefa Champions League final against Manchester City.

He has now revealed that people expected him to be the new Cristiano Ronaldo following his £70 million move from Bayer Leverkusen to Stamford Bridge.

“People expect you to be the new Cristiano Ronaldo,” Havertz told Suddeutsche Zeitung . “But it won’t be that fast, everything is new and I really didn’t play my best football at the beginning.

“I felt a completely different pressure than before in Leverkusen.”

Havertz is on international duty with Germany and they are set to take on France on Tuesday in one of the crackers of the Euro 2020 competition.

“We’re with the national team, we have different processes and different goals here,” said Havertz. “Of course, this title gives me tailwind and a lot of self-confidence, but there’s no point in feeling like a Champions League winner if you screw up the European Championship afterwards.”

Havertz scored nine goals and recorded nine assists for Chelsea at the end of his first season at Stamford Bridge.
