JUST IN: Naomi Osaka Withdraws From Another Tennis Tournament

Tennis prodigy Naomi Osaka has pulled out of Berlin WTA 5000 grass-court tournament on Monday the organizers have confirmed, Sportivation.com.ng reports.

The 23-year-old pulled out of the ongoing French Open after she refused to attend press conferences citing mental health issues and it is unclear when she would be back on the court again.

According to the statement from the organizers.

“We have received notification Naomi Osaka cannot start in Berlin. After consulting her management, she will take a break,” Berlin event organizers said in a statement ahead of the tournament, which begins on June 14.

There are fears that Naomi Osaka may not participate in the Wimbledon Open which starts on June 28 and the Tokyo Olympics.

Osaka released a statement on Saturday to appreciate her fans for their support after she opted out of the French Open.

“Just want to thank you for all the love,” Osaka wrote in an Instagram story. “Haven’t been on my phone much but I wanted to hop on here and tell you all that I really appreciate it.”

After the World no. 2 announced her withdrawal from the tournament, The WTA also released a statement to assure of their support towards the mental well-being of Tennis players.

“Mental health and awareness around it is one of the highest priorities to the WTA,” the tour said. “We have invested significant resources, staffing and educational tools in this area for the past 20-plus years and continue to develop our mental health support system for the betterment of the athletes and the organization. We remain here to support and assist Naomi in any way possible and we hope to see her back on the court soon.”
