The umuahia township stadium played host to an entertaining friendly fixture as NNL outfit abia comets football club of umuahia welcomed jewels football academy from ohanze.

In a contest that saw both sides jostling for supremacy, it was the home team that had an early threat on goal in the 7th minute, as a left sided cross was brilliantly intercepted by Uche Franklin for a cornerkick.

The host pressed relentlessly for an opener and almost came close in the 21st minute, no thanks to debutant Ndubuisi igbani’s goal bound blocked shot which kept the scoreline even going into halftime.

Upon resumption the visitors had a moment of intent, debutant striker ugochukwu Nnado with a sizzling effort that went narrowly wide.

Comets eventually got thw opener in the 68″, towering central defender chigozie ani with a blistering free kick that went into the top right corner leaving goalkeeper paul francis helpless after a stretched dive.

Adeyemo paul rounded off the scoring in the 83″ with a close range header. Efforts to having the deficit halved by the visitors amounted to sheer futility as they rarely threatened going forward, the centre referee eventually ended proceedings.

POST MATCH REACTIONS (coach chinedu); “Good game from the boys judging from their last encounter in okigwe, they really showed commitment, especially the debutants, though the result didnt favor us, but we are not gonna relent in this course, the tides will turn soon”.

Abia comets used the friendly as a preparatory test as they welcome bayelsa united next week in an NNL fixture, meanwhile jewels heads back to ohanze as training intensifies.
