Nigerian players across Europe have been showing their mettle since the beginning of the 2020/2021 season and there was no exception over the weekend, Sportivatiom.com.ng reports.
The action started in the Premier League on Friday with the duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi starting for Leicester City. Iheanacho scored the Foxes’ second goal after they went four goals down. He has now amassed 11 goals in the league this season.
Ndidi played for 63 minutes before being replaced by Ayoze Perez. Their performance was not at the optimum level as Brendan Rodgers’ side lost 4-2 to Newcastle at the King Power Stadium.
Prolific goalscorer Paul Onuachu continued in his blistering form as he opened the scoring for Genk in the 57th minutes against Club Brugge in the Belgium Jupiler League. He was subbed off for his compatriot Cyriel Dessers and the tie ended 3-0 in favour of Club Brugge.

Victor Osimhen contributed to three goals in Napoli’s 4-1 victory over Spezia away from home. Osimhen scored a brace in the 23rd and 44th minutes respectively, and also set up Hirving Petagna for the fourth goal in the 79th minutes. He came off for Andrea Petagna in the 83rd minute. The former Lille striker has now registered 10 goals so far in the Serie A this season.
Isaac Success was in action for Watford in his first start of the season against Swansea City. Success increased his side’s tally by scoring the second goal via an assist from Marc Navarro. The game ended in a comfortable 2-0 win for Watford. Meanwhile, William Troost-Ekong was an unused substitute.
Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel played the entire minutes for Stoke City in their game against AFC Bournemouth. Mikel was solid and contributed immensely to Stoke City’s 2-0 win away from home.
Skillful winger Moses Simon was outstanding for Nantes as they dispatched Bordeaux 3-0 at home. Simon created the assist for Randal Kolo Muani to score the third goal in the 70th minutes. He was later substituted for Marcus Regis Coco in the 81st minutes.
Terem Moffi was involved in Lorient’s 4-1 defeat to Lyon. Moffi’s attacking prowess did not yield much as he fired blank. He came off for Pierre-Yves Hamel in the 72nd minutes.
In the Eredivisie, Tyronne Ebuehi featured all through the game for FC Twente against Heracles. Ebuehi’s defensive input coupled with his contribution going forward earned his side a point as the game ended one all.
Still, in the same championship, Maduka Okoye was in between the sticks for Sparta Rotterdam. Okoye kept a clean sheet as Sparta Rotterdam put three unreplied goals past Vitesse at home.
Chidozie Awaziem was solid in defence for Boavista in their home game against Tondela in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Awaziem held his own all through the encounter, though his team conceded a goal as the tie ended 1-1.
It was a bad day in the office for Simy Nwankwo. His team, Crotone were whitewashed 5-0 by AS Roma.

Semi Ajayi’s impact was not enough to muster a point for West Bromwich Albion as they lost 3-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Kingsley Ehizibue tasted a bit of action for FC Koln as he was subbed on for Salih Oezcan in the 76th minutes. His late introduction into the game could not alter the scoreline as they were defeated 4-1 by Freiburg.
Henry Onyekuru had 63rd minute under his belt for Galatasary. Onyekuru dazzled through the Besiktas defence a couple of times before being replaced by Muhammed Akturkoglu. Galatasary clinched a 3-1 victory over Besiktas at home.
Okoli Target More Goals As BPL Set To Resume

The Bangladesh Premier League is to resume by end of the month after the International break for matchday 17 league match, Sportivation.com.ng reports.
However, John Okoli of Sporting Saif football club has set his eyes on scoring more goals when the league resumes.
The young Nigerian striker who has scored 13 goals so far this season from just 16 appearances is confident of scoring more.
The 23-year-old former Messiah football club of Lagos player is dread by defenders in Bangladesh Premier League, (BPL).
Speaking ahead of the commencement of the league, John Okoli stated that he is ready to continue where he stopped before the league break with the target to score more goals.
He said the team is training and working hard to finish the season on the high.
“We are currently in 6th position on the table, but we feel we can do better by working harder to move up and finished in a position our supporters and management will be proud of”. He disclosed.
Okoli who has another Nigerian in his team, Kenneth Ikechukwu another striker who himself has contributed 5 goals this season is confident of finishing the season as the top scorer.
” I want to help my team to finish very well at the end of the season, hence, for this reason, I have to score as many goals as possible because that is my job in the team, so scoring more goals can lead me to top scorer’s chart because I already have 13 goals and in third place on the chart”. Okoli concluded.
Chukwueze Celebrates Europa League Trophy (Video)
Super Eagles dazzler, Samuel Chukwueze was in a joyous mood after his Spanish club, Villarreal defeated Manchester United in the final of the Uefa Europa League 11-10 via penalty shootout, Sportivation.com.ng reports.
Chukwueze did not feature in the final after failing a late fitness test but he was cheering his team on in the stands as they won their first-ever European trophy.
Chukwueze has made 12 appearances for Villarreal in the Europa League scoring one goal and recording five assists for the Yellow Submarines.

Nigerian Players Scorecard: Dessers On Target In Belgium
Nigerian Players across Europe have always displayed topnotch performance since the beginning of the 2020/2021 season and they continued in the same fashion over the weekend, Sportivation.com.ng reports.
Cyriel Dessers showcased a standout performance. Dessers started for Genk against Club Brugge in the Belgium Jupiler League. He converted a spot-kick in the 85th minute to earn his side a 2-1 win away from home. Dessers was a threat to Club Brugge’s defence on several occasions in the course of the game. His fellow compatriot Paul Onuachu was an unused substitute.
The duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho featured for Leicester City as they host Tottenham Hotspur at the King Power Stadium. The work rate of Ndidi in the Foxes’ midfield coupled with Iheanacho support for Jamie Vardy upfront wasn’t enough, thus Brendan Rodgers side lost 4-2 at home thereby missing out on UEFA Champions League football next season.

Former Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi replaced Abdoulaye Doucoure in the 57 minutes in Everton’s tie against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Iwobi’s introduction couldn’t make any difference as they were spanked 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
Semi Ajayi was on parade for West Bromwich Albion in their away game against Leeds United in the English Premier League. Ajayi tasted every minute of action but his presence in the Baggies’ defence couldn’t alter the result in his side’s favour as they lost 3-1 to Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Victor Osimhen played 90 minutes in Napoli’s encounter against Verona. It wasn’t a good day in the office for the former Lille forward as he fired blank. The game ended one-all, a result that saw his side finish fifth on Serie A standings with 77 points, hence they missed out on the UEFA Champions League spot for next season. The Gattuso led team were one point behind Atlanta and Juventus who finished third and fourth respectively with 78 points and 2 points behind AC Milan in the second position with 79 points.
Goal poacher Simy Nwankwo was present all through for Crotone as they play host to Fiorentina in the Italian Serie A. Nwankwo’s dribbling skills and runs didn’t result in a goal, hence the game ended in a stalemate.
Josh Maja came on for Ademola Lookman in the 64th minutes in Fulham’s home game against Newcastle United. Upon his introduction, he posed threats going forward but none ended in the back of the net. His side eventually lost 2-0 to Newcastle United.
In the French Ligue 1, Terem Moffi tasted 78 minutes of action. Moffi was involved in several build-ups leading to goal as his side, Lorient play away at Strasbourg. However, he didn’t register a goal. Trevoh Chalobah’s goal in the 55 minutes, with an assist from Enzo Le Fee restored parity for Lorient having trailed by a goal since the 18th minute. The game ended 1-1.
Moses Simon was also called upon in Nantes’ fixture against Montpellier. Simon’s pace and dribbling skills wasn’t enough to muster a point for his side as they lost 2-1 at home. He was subbed off for Marcus Regis Coco in the 75th minute.
