Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze is doubtful for the Uefa Europa League final against Manchester United after Villarreal confirmed that he has suffered a muscle injury, Sportivation.com.ng reports.
The 21-year-old was stretchered off in the second leg against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium which ended 0-0 and he faces a race against time to be fit for the showdown in Gdansk, Poland on May 26.
Chukwueze played a pivotal role in the first leg in Spain which ended in a 2-1 win for Villarreal by assisting Manu Tigueros for the opening goal.
The Yellow Submarines have now confirmed that the former Diamond Football Academy star is expected to be out for weeks due to a muscle injury.
“Medical tests carried out on Samu Chukwueze have confirmed muscular damage to the quadriceps in his left leg, which he picked up during the second leg of the Uefa Europa League semi-final against Arsenal FC,” the club statement read.
“The recovery time depends on the player’s progress.”
Chukwueze has enjoyed an impressive season in the colours of Villarreal scoring three goals in his last four Laliga matches including a goal against Barcelona two weeks ago.
