Sportivation.com.ng monitored how Nigerian players fared over the weekend across various European leagues.
21-year-old forward Terem Moffi displayed a terrific performance by scoring a hattrick in Lorient’s 4-1 win over Bordeaux at home. He was unplayable until he was subbed off for Pierre-Yves Hamel in the 85th minutes. Moffi has now scored 14 goals in the French Ligue 1 this season.
In the same championship, Moses Simon was involved in Nantes’ game against Strasbourg. His laudable impact in the tie saw him provide an assist for Ludovic Blas to score Nantes’ second goal. Simon was on the winning side as they defeated Strasbourg 2-1 away from home. He came off for Marcus Regis Coco in the 80th minute.
Samuel Chukwueze started on a high as he opened the scoring for Villarreal in the 26th minute by dribbling past  Ter Stegen before slotting the ball into the back of the net after receiving a pass from Pau Torres. His runs and dribbling skills were a threat to Barcelona’s backline for the most part of the game, though Villarreal lost 2-1 at home. He was replaced by Yeremi Pino in the 89th minute.
Simy Nwankwo continued his impressive run of form in the Italian Serie A in a seven-goal thriller. He scored from an open play in the 42nd minutes before converting a spot-kick in the 69th minutes. His brace was crucial to Crotone’s 4-3 win over Parma at home.
Shot-stopper Maduka Okoye was in goal for Sparta Rotterdam as they host VVV-Venlo in the Eredivisie. Okoye was commanding and also kept a clean sheet as Sparta Rotterdam defeated VVV-Venlo 2 nil at home.
Tyronne Ebuehi played for FC Twente in their game against Utrecht. Ebuehi’s input could not salvage a point for his team, hence they lost 2-1 at home to the visitors.
In the English Championship, William Troost-Ekong was instrumental and impressive in his defensive role for Watford as they defeated Millwall 1-0 at home. Ekong, alongside his fellow compatriots Isaac Success and Tom Dele-Bashiru, will be playing in the English top-flight with Watford next season after they gained promotion back to the Premier League with a win.
John Obi Mikel tasted 90 minutes of action for Stoke City against Nottingham Forest. Mikel played a pivotal role by protecting the Potters’ defence, however, the tie ended one-goal apiece.
Chidozie Awaziem featured for Boavista in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. His defensive prowess was not enough, thus they lost 1 nil at home to Maritimo. He was later substituted for Yanis Hamache in the 66 minutes.
Former Chelsea player Victor Moses was present in action for Spartak Moscow in the Russia Premier League. Moses was efficient and helped his team to secure a 1 nil win over CSKA Moscow. Chidera Ejuke was also involved for CSKA Moscow when he came on for IIya Shkurin in the 82nd minutes.
Sensational midfielder Joe Aribo dictated play for Rangers in their Scottish Cup encounter with St. Johnstone. Aribo was magnificent with his passes & dribbles and provided the assist for James Tavernier to give his side the lead in the 117th minutes. The game eventually ended 1-1 after extra time but Rangers lost 4-2 on penalties.
