Champions League: Tuchel Hails Mount After Porto Victory

Chelsea Coach, Thomas Tuchel has showered encomiums on Mason Mount after he played a key role in the 2-0 win over Porto in the first leg of the Uefa Champions League last-eight clash.

Mason Mount opened the scoring for Chelsea with a superb finish after a lovely turn to leave Porto defender, Mbemba in his wake.

Mount has been impressive for Chelsea this season after being called ”Lampard boy” before the former Derby boss was sacked.

Under Thomas Tuchel, Mount has flourished and he was again showed his importance to the team with another top-class performance against Porto.

“The finish was clinical from Mason,” Tuchel told reporters. “He has the quality to do this and to do it in a quarterfinal is a big step for him.

“He has the right attitude towards success. He is open and hungry to learn.”

At 22 years and 87 days, Mount also became Chelsea’s youngest goalscorer in a Champions League knockout game.

“Mason is a key player for us and I am happy he fits into this role at a young age,” Tuchel added.

Mount has scored five goals for Chelsea since Thomas Tuchel too over from Frank Lampard in January more than any other player for the club since then.

Hazard Apologizes for Laughing With Chelsea Players

Eden Hazard has apologized for laughing with Kurt Zouma and Edouard Mendy after Real Madrid’s loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

Hazard received a lot of backlash for his actions after the game from Real Madrid fans and Spanish media which has resulted into divided opinion amongst football fans on social media.

“I am sorry. I have read a lot of opinions about me today and it wasn’t my intentions to offend Real Madrid fans.

” It has always been my dream to play for Real Madrid and I came here to win.

“The season is not over and together we must now battle for La Liga! Hala Madrid!”, Hazard wrote on his social media account.

The Belgian forward struggled for most part of the game and was replaced by Mariano Diaz in the 89 minutes.

He has managed to score 3 goals in 18 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

Christian Pulisic’s lovely finish and an acrobatic kick from Karim Benzema ensured both sides shared the spoils in the first leg of the encounter at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium, while goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount in the second leg saw the west London club edge Zinedine Zidane’s side.

Chelsea will face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League final on May 29 at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul.

Manchester City Beat PSG To Book Champions League Final Place

Manchester City recorded a 2-0 victory over PSG at the Etihad Stadium to qualify for their first-ever Uefa Champions League final.

The first leg ended 2-1 in favour of the Citizens and PSG suffered a major blow as Kylian Mbappe failed to recover from injury and subsequently missed out of the game.

Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring with an early shower eleven minutes into the contest with a superb finish which rattled the visitors.

PSG tried to find their way back into the game in the first half but Manchester City defended doggedly to deny them the chance as the first half ended 1-0.

Mahrez ended the contest with another goal just after the hour-mark to ensure Manchester City’s place in the Uefa Champions League final.

Angel Di Maria was sent off for a stamp on Fernandinho following a touch line tussle.

Mahrez hailed his teammates for giving their all to qualify for the final.

“It was a very good game. We didn’t start well again – we didn’t have a good first half but we got the goal and we were more comfortable. 

“We played well second half and we could have scored more. They lost their nerve and started to kick us and after the red card it was more comfortable”.

“We have another game on Saturday we need to be win to be league champions and then we’ll concentrate on the Champions League final.”

Manchester City will play the winner between Chelsea and Manchester City in the Uefa Champions League final in Istanbul on May 29.

Champions League: Gundogan Ridicules New UCL Format

Manchester City midfielder IIkay Gundogan has ridiculed the new UEFA Champions League format.

The UEFA Executive Committee after its meeting on 19 April 2021 announced that the current format of having 32 teams in the group stage will cease to exist from the 2024/2025 season.

The new format will give four more teams the opportunity to compete against the best clubs in Europe in a 36-team league, with the number of matches increasing from 125 to 225.

“With all the Super League stuff going on… can we please also speak about the new Champions League format?”, Gundogan tweeted.

“More and more and more games, is no one thinking about us players?

“The new UCL format is just the lesser of the two evils in comparison to the Super League.

“The UCL format right now works great and that is why it’s the most popular club competition in the world- for us players and for the fans”,he concluded.

The German midfielder has been in blistering form this season and is on the cause of winning his third Premier League title with the Etihad side.
